After breakfast on the Anouvong Cruise, we switch to a longtail boat due to unsuitable river conditions for our ship. As we head upstream, we'll reach Khok Ek, home to Hmong, Lao Loum, and Khamo ethnic groups, each with distinct traditions and lifestyles. We'll explore their village life and, if possible, their organic gardens.

Lunch will be served on the boat en route to Pakbeng, where we'll visit Laos' leading elephant sanctuary, showcasing ecotourism and the conservation of former logging elephants in a natural habitat.

The day ends with check-in at Le Grand Hotel & Resort in Pakbeng, offering scenic views, with dinner at the hotel.

Start early on your final river day to reach Huay Xai, enjoying breakfast on the longtail boat with scenic views. We navigate the Mekong and Nam Tha River junctions.

Lunch, fruit, and drinks are provided during the journey. By mid-afternoon, we arrive at Huay Xai pier and arrange a smooth transfer to the Lao-Thai border, wishing you well on your next travels.

NOTE: Please note we can arrange transfers to Chiang Rai City or its airport, or to a resort or hotel in Chiang Sean if you're planning to spend more time in the Golden Triangle area on the Thai side.

After meeting guests post-Lao immigration, we head by minivan to the Anouvong Cruise, docked at Huay Xai Per. Our crew handles check-in and luggage as we set off on a 3-night Upper Mekong cruise.

Passing the Mekong and a tributary, we approach a modern village of 800 Tai Lu people, known across several countries. We'll experience the Baci ceremony, a warm and sincere Laotian ceremony done by local older people, giving good wishes for your trip.

Due to their past, releasing them into the wild isn't feasible, making this sanctuary a key ecotourism site. Time permitting, we'll also visit a hilltop in Pakbeng for stunning views.

After lunch, get creative in a bamboo weaving workshop, crafting your own basket to keep as a souvenir.

In the morning, meet us at the Lao immigration office (check the embarkation guide for times). We'll take a minivan to the pier and then a longtail boat to the Heritage Line Anouvong Cruise, taking about 8 hours.

Lunch and snacks are provided on the boat, with our crew onboard to ensure a comfortable trip. Massages are available upon request. Our guide will share insights about Laos and our route. Enjoy the views and local river life as we travel.

We'll reach the Anouvong Cruise around 05:00 PM for cabin check-in. You will attend a brief on ship safety before enjoying dinner in the restaurant. You're also welcome to our nightly movie in the lounge.

Then, Heritage Line offers two options: a kayak trip on the Nam Ou River for a serene adventure or a boat ride to Ban Muang Keo for a silk weaving demo and a visit to a local healer who uses natural remedies.

Back on board, you enjoy lunch as the ship sails down passing actual Luang Prabang. During the afternoon, you can immerse yourself in a presentation about the Golden Triangle's history, covering its colonial, opium, and conflict narratives, as we sail through this iconic region.

We'll be staying overnight next to a sandbank and hosting a goodbye dinner on the shore. Spend your last evening enjoying time with other passengers and our crew, who'll entertain you with a local dance show.

On your final day, we have two special activities planned. First, after breakfast, we'll take a minivan to an elephant sanctuary, where you can interact with these majestic animals, once used for logging but now cared for with much love. Enjoy a walk with the elephants by the river and learn about their lives in Laos.

Next, we head to the stunning Kuang Si waterfalls, known for their beauty and turquoise waters, perfect for a walk and a refreshing swim in the pools at the base.

Then, we return to the ship for lunch as we sail to Luang Prabang, arriving around 03:00 PM. We'll assist with your luggage and say our goodbyes at the town center pier, wishing you well on your next adventure. End of services.
